Frequently Asked Questions
  1. How did you come up with the idea for your novel?...."Outback Exodus" began life as a short story for an anthology, but during the editing process the feedback from my editors and beta readers was that they wanted more, more of what happens next, more of the journey, more of the story. The story then took on a life of its own, was withdrawn from the anthology and has become not just one story, but is the first in a planned series of five books. Three books have been published to date and the remaining two will be published next year.

  2. Do you have a favourite character?....Yes, I very much have a favourite character. It would have to be Jenn, she is a real Australian Bush Girl. Tough, fiesty, can turn her hand to anything and is a strong personality. Jenn is a community leader and a farmer. She has run her small farm for the last five years since the death of her husband in an accident and has done this very well. Life is simple for Jenn right up until the early morning hours of 1 January 2013. She is drinking her early morning coffee on the front porch of the homestead when an odd feeling overcomes her. As she heads into the house to shower and get ready for the day the whole world changes around her. That unexpected change catapaults her into another world, a world where she becomes a leader in the new order.

About Dawn Millen

Dawn Millen was born in the United Kingdom, but has made Australia her home for the last 30 years. During that time she has raised a family, become a grandparent and has also been widowed.

Widowhood though has plunged Dawn back into the world of writing now that she has the time to devote to her craft. Writing across many genre Dawn has published Memoirs, Poetry and Fiction within the last three years and continues to write her current chronicle the "Outback Exodus" series. With the first three books currently published Dawn is concentrating on completing book four at this time.

Dawn lives in the beautiful Southern Highlands area of New South Wales, where she shares her cottage with her dog and cat. Members of the family and friends visit frequently and the door is always open and the kettle on. Nothing better for an observer of the human race than to watch and learn as people come and go. This is where many of the ideas for characters in her books come from and she is a keen observer of behaviour patterns and this brings authenticity to her characters.

Dawn invites you to read the "Outback Exodus", join the trek across the outback and become a member of the band of 252 people fleeing the devestation of their towns as they head for the coast and hopefully safety.
